Drone-Swarm Engineer
Builds and flies the pollinator-survey drone swarm that lets HIVE-13 watch the bloom without setting a boot in it.
Role Summary
The Drone-Swarm Engineer keeps HIVE-13's eyes over the meadows — building, piloting, and repairing the aerial micro-drone swarm that surveys bloom health, maps pesticide drift, and documents threats at distance. The role configures optical, spectral, and air-sampling payloads for each tasked profile and streams positionally-tagged telemetry into MELISSA for evidence and analysis. When the swarm flies clean, an interdiction often never has to happen at all.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the aerial micro-drone swarm for bloom survey, drift mapping, and evidence capture within the observe and document tiers.
- Configure optical, multispectral, and air-sampling payloads for tasked mission profiles in coordination with Dispatch and the Telemetry Analyst.
- Perform field repair, battery management, and pre-flight checks, declaring each unit mission-capable before launch.
- Stream and tag telemetry to MELISSA with positional and timestamp integrity sufficient for evidentiary reconstruction.
- Develop and tune swarm-coordination behaviours for autonomous transect and follow-on tasking.
- Maintain the spares inventory and serviceability board for all unmanned assets, flagging shortfalls to the Engineering Watch Officer.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on UAV piloting and electromechanical maintenance experience.
- Embedded or swarm-coordination software familiarity.
- Steady remote-piloting nerves in cluttered, low-altitude environments.
- Payload-integration and sensor-troubleshooting ability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multi-agent or swarm-control development experience.
- Multispectral or air-quality sensing background.
- Familiarity with the MELISSA telemetry-tagging pipeline.
